Trim playback ranges and create derived video files

Select an In/Out range for playback or make a separate file from that range.

Before you start

Open the collection and layout you intend to use. Prepare the devices, storage, or receiving service required by this workflow.

Where to find it

Video Source properties > local preview and VIDEO TIMELINE.

Set it up

  1. Choose the local File Path.
  2. Seek the preview to the beginning and choose Mark In, or drag the In handle.
  3. Seek to the end and choose Mark Out, or drag the Out handle.
  4. Enable Play only marked area to limit source playback to this range.
  5. Choose Full Range to restore the full-file marks when needed.
  6. Save the source settings.

Timeline precision

Drag inside the selected range to move it without changing duration. Click/drag elsewhere to seek. With an In/Out handle focused, Left/Right Arrow fine-adjusts it. Enter applies a typed time; Esc discards the typed edit.

Keep or trim the marked area

Keep Mark Area creates a derived file containing the selected range. Trim Mark Area creates a derived file with that area removed. Use the processing dialog to choose Output location and start the selected operation. These actions create derived files; playback marks alone do not cut the original file.

Content and dynamic video

Preview/Program playback controls are available when the source is used as Content. A Dynamic Video box receives content from its group; see Dynamic Video.
