How do I add and update on-screen text?

Follow this workflow to add and update on-screen text.

Before you start

Prepare the text and choose the desired font and appearance.

Where to find it

Sources > Add > Text.

Steps

  1. Open the scene that will contain the source.
  2. Choose Add in Sources.
  3. Select Text in Create Source.
  4. Enter a name and choose New.
  5. Choose Type.
  6. Enter text, select a text file, or configure timer/date fields.
  7. Choose Select Font....
  8. Set appearance and alignment.
  9. Use Custom Text Extents and Wrap if a fixed text area is needed.
  10. Choose Save and Close (or OK where shown).
  11. Check the source in Preview before taking it to Program.

Check the result

Check readability at the final output size.

Helpful information

Countdown/count-up use Range Seconds and Start Seconds. Timer Format and Date/Time Format control presentation; custom formats and Time Zone are available. Gradient blends two text colors. Outline improves legibility. Background and its opacity control the text box. Chatlog Mode retains the most recent lines up to Line Limit. Double-click supported slider thumbs to restore their opening values.

If something is wrong

If text is clipped, review the source bounds, wrapping, and font size.
