Video Capture Device

Capture a camera or compatible video device.

Before you start

Open the intended collection and layout. For capture or network inputs, have the device or sender available.

Where to find it

Sources > Add > Video Capture Device.

Use it

  1. Open the scene that will contain the source.
  2. Choose Add in Sources.
  3. Select Video Capture Device in Create Source.
  4. Enter a name and choose New.
  5. Choose Device.
  6. Choose the device default or a supported resolution/FPS type.
  7. Set format, buffering, and color options as needed.
  8. Choose the audio mode or custom audio device.
  9. Choose Save and Close (or OK where shown).
  10. Check the source in Preview before taking it to Program.

Controls and additional tasks

Refresh devices reloads the list. Activation starts/stops capture independently of visibility. Deactivate when not showing releases an unused camera. Configure Video and Configure Crossbar appear when the device supports them. Resolution, FPS, and Video Format must be supported by the camera. Flip Vertically and Autorotation adjust orientation. Hardware Decode applies only to supported formats.

Audio DeviceChoose the audio input used when custom audio is enabled.
Save and CloseSave Video Capture Source settings. Shortcut: Ctrl+S.
CancelClose without saving changes.

If something is wrong

If the camera is absent, refresh and check camera permission. If it is black, close other applications using it and choose a supported format.

Stop or remove

Hide the source to stop showing its picture. Use its available playback/connection stop control when you need to stop the input itself. Remove the source item from the scene when it is no longer needed. Shared sources can still be used in other scenes.
