How do I capture computer playback audio?

Follow this workflow to capture computer playback audio.

Before you start

Choose the playback device carrying the sound you want.

Where to find it

Sources > Add > Audio Output.

Steps

  1. Open the scene that will contain the source.
  2. Choose Add in Sources.
  3. Select Audio Output in Create Source.
  4. Enter a name and choose New.
  5. Choose Device.
  6. Set Use Device Timestamps.
  7. Choose Save and Close (or OK where shown).
  8. Check the source in Preview before taking it to Program.

Check the result

Play a sample and check the meter and finished output sound.

Helpful information

Default follows the configured default output. Mixer routing and monitoring are separate from device choice.

If something is wrong

If echo occurs, check that the captured playback is not sent back to the same listening route.
