Audio & monitoring
How do I monitor audio through headphones?
Follow this workflow to monitor audio through headphones.
Before you start
Connect the listening device and identify the inputs or bus you want to hear.
Where to find it
File > Options > Audio Monitor Channels; Monitor Channels dock.
Steps
- Open File > Options > Audio Monitor Channels.
- Select a channel, choose Edit, and set Name, Channel No., and Output Device.
- Enable the monitor channel and save.
- Open the intended mixer input’s properties and set its send to the monitor channel.
- Adjust the monitor send’s balance, level, mute, and solo as needed.
- Use the Monitor Channels dock to adjust the listening channel volume and mute.
- Listen to a sample and verify the selected output profile independently.
Check the result
Speak or play a sample and listen through the selected device. Check the output recording separately, because monitoring and recording can use different routes.
Helpful information
A monitor channel controls what you hear at an operator device. An output audio track controls what is sent or saved. Selecting headphones does not automatically assign recording tracks.
If something is wrong
If meters move but headphones are silent, check Output Device, enabled monitor channel, input monitor sends, monitor volume, mute, and solo. Avoid capturing the same listening device back into the mix.
